State of Tennessee Imposes Fees for Accidents Not Reported Through the State

Category: Risk Management

As anticipated, the State of Tennessee has a new process of reporting automobile accidents involving vehicles driven for University business. This is in addition to the University process already in place.

If a University-owned, rental or personal vehicle is driven for official University business and is involved in an accident involving a third party, the University driver must call the State of Tennessee Auto Accident Call Center at 855-253-0629 and report the accident within one day (24 hours) of the accident.

After July 1, 2019, failure to report an accident involving a third party will result in a $1,000 charge to your department by the State Treasurer’s Office.

You can find current vehicle accident reporting procedures on the Office of Risk Management website: https://riskmanagement.tennessee.edu/automobile-claims/.

Also, effective July 1, 2019, the State Treasurer’s Office will assess a $500 fee charged to your department if:

  1. Any workplace injury is not properly reported to CorVel within three business days of injury, regardless of whether the injury constitutes a serious bodily injury or life-threatening injury.
  2. An injured worker that is experiencing a nonemergency workplace injury seeks medical treatment prior to properly reporting the injury to CorVel via 24/7.

CorVel is the third-party administrator of the State of Tennessee workers compensation program. You can contact CorVel at 866-245-8588.
